"Well, you know what they say: any sniper rifle must be upgraded from stock before it's really great. This JG BAR-10 is no exception. Right out of the box, performance had been inconsistent. Some days it won't properly hop .25gm bb's, other days it'll overhop. Shots will curve all over the place but with a good majority shooting straight and hard. Performance may improve once bucking wears in - I already noticed it doing better with the .25's. Some models may be better @stock than others, so YMMV.
I knew this going in and was planning to use the JG as an upgrade platform anyway, so I had already ordered upgraded parts to replace the trigger box, chamber, barrel, bucking, and piston, to start.
The gun externals are very good. The stock is rubberized and has a great feel, although I don't know how it'll wear as time passes. The trigger pull is very hard and not terribly smooth but it's apparently adjustable to some degree. The model I have did not exhibit a consistent right curve, as did my stock TM G-Spec, so one point for the hop-up in that regards. Bolt pull is slightly stiff and not as smooth as the TM (well, what is?), but that's to be expected for a 45 degree trigger. The magazine holds 30 rounds, but the gun will sometimes double feed (a fault of the hop-up chamber), unless the bolt is closed quickly.
ASM stuck on their obligatory plastic orange tip, and it was a pain to remove (not that I recommend you do so unless you understand the risks). Once removed, you'll need to purchase a metal muzzle cap to replace as one is not included in the package.
What is included, however, is a no-name 3-9x40 illuminated scope. Surprisingly, this scope is very very good and looks great. Optics appear very clean and clear, and the reticle contains windage and holdover markings. The illumination comes in red and green, with five levels each. However, the illumination can be seen through the front lens and can give away your position. The scope is definitely worth the $20 cost over the non-scoped rifle version.
So...four stars for the externals and scope. Definitely recommended, but you'll be happier with it if you plan to use it to upgrade."
