"Ok, lets get this out of the way...
-This is not my first airsoft gun.
-This is not my first sniper rifle
-I've done some minor work on both snipers and AEG's
Why am I saying this? because buy reading through the 5 star reviews, it looks like a good chunk do not really know what this gun's point is.. and may do not have much airsoft experience.
I will try to give you all that you need to know with a bit more detail.
So now that that pompous intro is out of the way lets get started.
-The guns packaged scope is junk, flimsy rings but better then nothing I guess.
-The stock is supposed to be polymer, and feels better then normal ABS, but not as good as some nylon polymer AEGs
-The bolt is quite small, and dose not have a rounded ball on the edge Like with the UTG L96 guns, but i's easy to pull back, and extremely light
-The hop-up is really finicky and it's hard to find a good setting with,
-I got the best accuracy using eliteforce .28's and setting my hopup to 3/8's. (I tried .32's but they preformed worse) even with this setup once every 5 or 6 shots, I'll have a bb fly off by about 5". It's a bit odd..
-You can not use any other mags, the AGM mk96 uses it's own.
-The Sling? can't comment, I opened the box, and the plastic was ripped open and the sling was gone.. Airsoft megastore stole it, lol...
-I could get pretty good accuracy at about 100ft, (only using an aftermarket scope) I could hit a soda can about 8/10 times, and it had enough power to dent it (.28's)
-But when I used anything else but .28's at that hop-up setting, I had bbs diving straight down at 60ft.
BB's curving at weird angles but getting back on track at around 70 ft. and other odd stuff.
-The weight is well balanced, and it dose not feel bulky,
However, they added large weights in the stocks, so even though the overall weight is fine, they could have reduced it to make it easier to carry.
-The barrel is quite disappointing, as the bb is loaded into the part about an 1.5in back from the bipod, HALF of the gun's barrel length is wasted, and is just there for show.
and you end up with about the same amount of usable barrel space as you'd get with an m4
This gun is what it is, A budget sniper rifle.
I got this setup for $98 on sale and for what I paid it dose the job well. NOT GREAT but good.
If I could give it a 3.5, as off sale it' about $120, and for just a little more you could get a much higher end gun. with much better accuracy.
but it's not a bad gun by any means, and I would not give it a 3.
IF YOU SEE IT ON SALE, and you really want a sniper rifle for back yard shooting or small game, then buy this gun.
For field games, with larger groups I'll stick with my m4 for longer range shots.
You can get a good m4 for around the same price as this.
and with a quick and easy barrel upgrade, you'll be able to burst fire, and get just as good accuracy as this gun.
Maybe a but less range, but you'll be shooting much faster.
Just a think to keep in mind.
I'll make a video review (with shooting test) in a few days,
if you want to check it out, just youtube search "Bobdotexe mk96""
