Our take:  The S&T Armament Tavor T.A.R. 21, with fully licensed IWI (Israeli Weapon Industries) trademarks, is one of the most highly-anticipated new AEGs to hit the market this year.  The Airsoft Tavor, a rare sight to behold on the Airsoft fields, instantly turns you into Airsoft royalty.  The TAR-21, which stands for Tavor Assault Rifle 21st Century, is a highly effective fully automatic assault rifle with a bullpup design, meaning the bolt is designed to be behind the pistol grip, which makes for more compact overall rifle length without compromising barrel length and subsequently, power and accuracy.

The receiver/rifle body is made out of a lightweight and durable polymer.  A high-strength proprietary polycarbonate gearbox and Quick Change Spring System with 8mm metal bushings means this rifle is definitely designed to perform.  Shooting at JUST under 350 FPS with 0.20g BBs, the S&T Tavor Tar-21 makes for one of the very best and certainly most unique CQB weapons we've handled all year.  And with the latest and most advanced spring change system ever, the Tar-21 allows for extremely quick and efficient spring changes without having to take apart your entire rifle.  This means simple power upgrades with minimal hassle.

The Tavor T.A.R. 21 features front and rear flip up sights for accurate aiming, and also features a top rail for easy optics mounting.  We prefer our Tavor to be mounted with a G51 or G52 holographic red/green dot sight, for ultra fast target acquisition and amazing maneuverability in pretty much any type of playing space.

A functional charging handle enhances realism, while the ambidextrous mag release adds creature comforts.

Battery and charger are NOT included.  An 8.4v mini battery (NiMH) will get you started, and a standard NiMH battery smart charger is also needed to charge your 8.4v battery.  Make sure to get the right charger if you do not already own one yet.

IWI Tavor TAR-21
18/09/13
By: Henry Holloway

"Over all a very good rifle, the pros definitely outweigh the cons, and it certainly turns heads out on the field. This weapon is my go-to gun for all forms of combat. Pros: Lightweight, and sturdy polymer body. Can be modified to be Left or Right handed Secure and tight Mag-well Comfortable grip Accurate at all ranges Easily adjustable hop-up Balanced weight Extremely versatile weapon Cons: When switched to left-handed, the bolt doesn't line up with the charging handle (this happens 3 out of 5 times when bolt is released) Iron sights are a nightmare, basically forces you to buy a sight Difficult to mount a sling on. (I recommend jerry-rigging one out of para-cord and threading it through the stock)"

Tar-21

"This is an amazing gun! I would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice rifle for a good price. Pros high ROF with 9.6v battery light but very sturdy build metal fire selector and magazine VERY accurate Cons the rail on the top of the rifle is plastic and the rear flip up sight is high making it difficult to mount any optic. (need a rail to go on top of it for sights.) the rifle is surprisingly loud (doesn't really matter to me) the battery compartment is a little tight but hardly a concern. overall this is a great rifle for the price and how it performs."

"This gun is great it shoots close to 900 rpm with the 8.4v and 1,060 rpm with a butterfly 9.6v The gun doesn't come with the tri rails for the sides but does take m16 style rails which can be purchased in pairs for $5."

Good for the $$$
03/04/12
By: Michael McDonagh

"I recently bought this rifle and have to say its field performance was very impressive. The accuracy and range were on par with rifles I've seen with upgraded internals. The rate of fire is a little low, but not terrible, and got much better when I switched from 8.4 to 9.6. It is exceedingly light and while certain aspects feel cheap (specifically the top rail and plastic "iron" sights) the overall body structure feels solid. If you are a 1st time buyer I would probably steer you to a JG G36 or M4 model which is going to be a little better overall for the money, but if you're looking for something a little different this is a very good buy for the money considering the Ares version is around $500. Pros Good accuracy Good intermediate range Extremely light Fits all M4/M16 mags Good price Cons Top rail is too low, will need a riser rail if using standard scopes/red dot Is very loud Plastic "iron sights" and top rail Low ROF with 8.4v"

Decent AEG - but shoddy clip
24/09/11
By: Ash

"The gun itself is nice (once I got over the fact it came with no battery or charger). But the AR compatible magazine was really shoddy. Before I even used it a washer was rattling inside and fell out. The plastic on top of the clip has irregular ruts and the edges are rough and scratch the polymer when inserted into the rifle."

Nice gun, got less than I expected
23/06/11
By: anonymous

"I realize that this is a much cheaper version of ARES's Tavor, and I jumped at the opportunity without hesitating, but that might have been a mistake. The body is cheap-feeling plastic, not what I was expecting from a $200 gun. My cheaper JG G36C is made of a nicer polymer. The gearbox is also a slight disappointment. I found that it fares poorly with .25g BB's out of the box. With .20g BB's, their trajectory drops too soon after leaving the barrel, even with max hop-up. I'm not sure how much hassle is involved in removing the gearbox, but you should be able to open it up and upgrade it fairly easily. I haven't yet tried the quick change spring system. A 9.6V mini battery fit perfectly in the battery compartment. The intellect nunchuck battery had excess wiring, but it fit. Overall... Pros: Awesome looking gun, less expensive than ARES' version Cons: Cheap plastic body, weak stock gearbox(at least the stock spring), mag feeding issue, no side rails despite description "
