Our take:  The A&K M249 MKII is a high-performance SAW [Squad Automatic Weapon] that is notorious for its perfect balance between affordability, performance, and reliability, with no compromise in between.  The M249 MKII is a full size replica of the real steel M249, and is built using high quality materials outside and in to ensure durability, even during extended game play.

On the inside, the M249 MKII has been overhauled for 2011.  It features a high performance gearbox that has been re-designed with an enhanced high-performance gear set and a new high-torque motor that has improved overall shooting smoothness and slightly increased rate of fire over comparable 2009 production run models (A&K did not manufacture products in 2010 due to the Airsoft manufacturer 'crack down' in Asia, so all current examples on the marketplace can be assumed to be 2009 production run models unless otherwise stated).

An integrated bipod comes standards users will find it very useful in times of varying Airsoft combat scenarios.

Exact replica of M249 MKII, with a stamped metal receiver, metal casting top cover, metal gearbox!  A motor-driven automatic winding 2500 round box magazine included!

    Features:
    - Full metal body
    - Full metal gearbox
    - Next generation high torque motor
    - Full metal barrel

    Magazine:  2,500-round capacity

Outer Barrel Threading:  14mm CCW (Counter Clockwise)

    Overall Length: 41.5" in.
Ammo type: Seamless 0.20g or heavier (0.23g, 0.25g, 0.26g, 0.28g, etc) BBs.  For maximum performance and accuracy, Airsoft Megastore recommends GoldenBall ProSlick BBs which carry perfect spherical consistency and density, available at Airsoft Megastore for the lowest price on the market, guaranteed.
    *There is no semi-auto mode

Package includes: M249 MKII Full Metal AEG, 2,500rd drum mag, mini battery, standard wall charger

Battery Charger Recommendation:  Although this fully automatic airsoft rifle comes with a standard wall charger to charge the battery, Airsoft Megastore recommends the use of a smart charger to avoid overcharging the battery(overcharged batteries may cause decreased airsoft gun performance and may shorten battery life significantly).  Smart chargers not only shorten charge time significantly (up to 800% faster charging), but more importantly, also automatically shut off once the battery is fully charged to avoid overcharged batteries.

    Thumbs UP!
    10/11/11
    By: Nathan

"Absolutely great gun. The M249 is intimidating and great SAW weapon. For those who plan on using the box clip regularly, I would suggest making sure to having quality, new batteries for it. I tried using some around the house, then went and bought some. New batteries make using the box clip a lot more sexier. Great rate of fire and accuracy. I used to use an M4 so the ability to use M4 clips in my M249 is awesome. It's pretty hefty, I'd guess right around 16 lbs with full box clip and battery. I'd definitely recommend this gun to anyone. If you're not in shape, carrying this bad boy around will get you there. Hope I helped and good luck."

"I've had this gun for 16 months. The first 6 months it was untouched and worked perfect. Went through about 50,000 rounds When the FPS dropped to under 350 it was time for a tune up. Shimmed the gears cleaned regreased and installed a new spring and a TBB. In the details it says it has a 450 mm barrel. Mine had a 509mm. I'm not sure why. 10 months latter and well over 15,000 rounds it steal shoots 415 FPS 21RPM with a 11.1 LYPO. The mag keeps up with absolutely no problems and has from day one. As others have said it's heavy for some. including myself. My son-in-law is the one that runs with it 6'3''and 245lb.so it.s not a bid deal. Bottom line if you can handle it BY it IT WONT LET YOU DOWN"

    Its an LMG
    05/01/13
    By: Tim

"I own one of these and Its a good gun overall and many people complain about the weight but I don't, it's an LMG not a pistol. I would recommend buying spare mags that are not battery powered because it always good to have emergency mags in case of battery failure in the mag it comes with. I would also recommend using good batteries in the mag because I have had trouble with using cheap batteries in it because the gun will shoot faster than the mag can provide. The only con with the gun is that it goes through alot of bbs The battery it comes with is pretty good for a stock battery and it gives the gun a high ROF which is what an LMG needs. Overall if you can afford this gun I would highly recommend it and I have owned some GOOD aegs"

"Bought this gun for Christmast last year. After some minor work (hopup & mag) this pig turned into a true gem. .20 and .25 BBs float out with the perfect back spin. Shoots a tighter group farther than any of our other guns. The rubber nub in the hopup doesn't make contact with the bb. A common problem if you research online. 5 min fix. Box mag is other weak link. Takes some tweaking on the inside to keep it feeding the gun (JB weld on the fly weight to keep it from falling off, polish the feed tray etc) I have had this apart about 10 times to keep it to working right. Much more dependable now. Ideally this gun should be rewired with an Mofset. Off the shelf 249s all seem to have trigger issues. The trigger switch tends weld closed during a long burst, resulting in a runaway gun (rewiring the gun with the mofset will solve this if done correctly). If you have the abililty to work on your own AEG I highly recommend this gun. If you can't, be ready to pay someone else to tweak it into a performance gun. Money well spent though."

    Answer to ?

    By: Blake

"Out of the 30 airsoft guns i own the A&K M249 S.A.W. is in the top five. First the cons: -none, however people complain about the weight. Now the pros: - the fps /w a .20g bb is 350+ -the range is from point blank all the way out to 150+ feet at a man size target. -the box mag holds 2500+ rounds -For me the weight of this gun is perect because it is 15+ pounds with it being fully loaded. -The battery that came with my model was a 9.6v 1600. It fits in the stock with more then enough room. -The bipod that comes on the gun looks somewhat flimsy, but will stand up to every thing you can throw at it, trust me i know. -The one thing that makes this gun stand out, beside the fear factor of it, is the quick change spring feature. -That is all the pros, now to the conclusion. After several years of use and abuse this thing still runs like a champ. The last thing i want to say is that if your looking for a quality gun that will last throw the thick and thin, then this is it."

    10/11/11
    By: Josh Byers

"Out of the box, its extremely light compared to the A&K M60E4. If your heavy on how the charging handles operate it isn't anything to write home about. Magpul PTS 75rd midcaps feed flawlessly in this though. Can't vouche for the box mag yet, no AAs lol. Seems like a good gun, we'll find out."

    This is Amazing

"I love it and it shoots so incredible. It fires nicer then any gun ive ever shot. The weight is fine and the rpm is awesome the fps is good but u should get a high powered co2 pistol like the g&g xtreme 45 which my friend has and own with both of them. The bipod on this is very sturdy and allows u to put the gun down because for some people it is a little heavy. The bipod also allows u to turn the gun up down left and right. Now the battery it comes with is a 9.6 so if u want upgrade to a 10.8 but it isnt needed. It fits very well in the stock. The handle looks awesome and is metal at some parts. The mag requires batteries and has two different styles of loading. Overall get this beautiful gun. Pros: Everything Cons: Weight for certain people"

    M249 SAW MK II

    By: Nick Masotta

"This gun is the best airsoft gun i have ever owned. I dint have time to fully charge it when it was delivered because i was going to a game but with only that small amount of battery the gun kicked azz. It's super accurate and works great but it is extremely heavy for a gun (15lbs) and the box Mag makes it slightly difficult to hold. also the thing is massive (almost 4ft long) but other than that this weapon is remarkable and i feel awesome just holding it."

    Great AEG!!

"Ok so I just got the new 2011 model A&K M249 MkII in March. Took it out yesterday for its first trial run. So far everything in the advert is dead on. The gun is overall an amazing piece of work. With the standard battery that comes with it I played for about 3 hours and still had plenty of juice left to show it off to my friends after. ROF and FPS is high, between 380 and 400 fps, rate of fire came in at about 800 to 850. Might upgrade the battery to increase that number.5000 rds through it with no jamming at all. One thing that definitely has to be done if you purchase this is mod the box mag as it is very easy for bb's to fall into the battery compartment. That was remedied with some card stock and tape ;) It is a hefty gun so better exercise a little if you plan on running around with it. But in all seriously the sheer magnitude of ammo it throws down range is oppresive to say the least. Can't wait to really go all out with it when there is better weather."

    M249 SAW
    13/09/10
    By: Derrick Flitcroft

"AMAZING i got it and love it. And to answer a few of the questions: yes it comes with a bipod if u look at the pics without a bipod u will notice that there is still a bipod it is simply folded up into the hand guard, and yes this gun has that feature. Second no it does not come with scope mounts or rails however the portion of the gun just above the barrel is very easy to remove and i am sure u can find weaver or picatinny rails that r compatible with this gun. The rate of fire for this gun is about 14 a second and the mag feeds beautifully! My only real complaint about this gun when u get it is that they do not include the manual for it so you will have to look it up online. One more thing to b careful of is that when u field strip this weapon and remove the barrel make sure u slide the barrel back in and line it up correctly i have seen it happen where it fits in so well and snug but the barrel is turned and BBs will never b able to enter the barrel. Hope this was helpful."

"pros. 380 fps 13bps a whole lot of steel bipod very nice iron sights very good upgrade platform. big battery space(i have been told that this gun is a beast with a lipo in it but i have not try'd one in mine yet.) cons. to replace the battery you have to take the inner and outer barrel out and that sucks to do my hop up does not work properly so im going to put a ca hop up in it this gun is heavy and after a day of airsoft you will feel it I have had no problems with this gun so far o and the gun in the picture is not what i got i believe the pic is the 2008 version the new one has a different stock and they removed the top part of the heat guard. (the stock looks like the para stock but it is not retractable like the para.) "

"This gun is awesome, especially for the price. Everything on it exceeded my expectations. The only downside you could possibly find on this gun is the weight. It has a very realistic feel. It's very powerful and shoots fast. It's also pretty accurate. One hell of a gun."

"This is probably, so far, my best gun. The external quality far exceeds most china-made guns. I haven't had any issues with the externals (except for one, which was my fault). The internals are another story. I had the same problem which many people have had with this gun where the trigger bar bends and the gun wont stop firing, but i managed to fix it, even though it was time consuming and a gun that costs this much shouldn't have such a stupid problem. Other than that, its a fantastic gun."

"The A&K M249 SAW is a decent gun out of the box. I had no troubles with the box magazine, but my two main problems are one, the hopup unit out of the box sucks. Two, I am having compression issues out of the box. My gun chronoed at 285 fps. I put the spring into another gun and it chronoed at 400, so the spring is not the issue. I highly recommend this gun to those who know how to gearbox work. If not, you should stick with kwa or vfc."

    Decent enough

    By: Real Talker

"Out of the box this thing feels amazing and is great to carry around. But once you shoot it, the cat comes out of the bag. The externals of this gun are amazing! It is all metal and it feels like it has been made by a machine from the heaven. But the internals are not impressive, it doesnt shoot as far as it should for this price. But it is also a great upgrade platform. It doesnt shoot very far but it has a good grouping. Pros: Great external quality Easy to change barrel and spring Looks amazing BB's feed well Fits almost any battery in it Bipod helps if you get tired Easy to upgrade Cons: Shoots weak Expensive for the internal Quality you get sometimes the gearbox will get stuck and the trigger will be hard to pull back I have heard rumors of "runaway guns" but hasn't happened to me yet. Overall i like most of the things about this gun, but some things could use help. But if you are going for a crazy scary intimidating weapon,, this will make them run for cover!"

    10/02/10
    By: Bruce Bradley

"Gun looks nice, but it has never worked worth a damn. Fire is uncontrollable and tends to keep firing after you let up on the trigger. This is too expensive to be such a piece of crap right out of the box. Mine came with no schematics or information to speak of. Somebody needs to produce a replacement part and directions on how to install it. It occasionally works properly. This gun is too darned expensive to be such a piece of junk."

    Not worth the money!

    By: Todd

"A day later and this thing only works 1/5th of the time. The motors run and run, but the BB's stay in the ammo box and the feed tube. Already blew the fuse that connects to the main battery pack, and the battery was charged with the smart charger. Could have bought a real gun that shoots real bullets rather than this piece of junk! Don't waist your money!"
