The Rise of the PDW

A review of the Classic Army Nemesis X9

By Angel Muro | August 21, 2018

Classic Army Nemesis X9 Airsoft AEG Series

As most of you airsofters have heard, these last few months Classic Army decided to try their hand at the sought after 9mm PDW. Some may say "They're just following G&G with their ARP 9", "It's just an ARP9 in metal", well let's TRULY see if CA did enough to differentiate their pistol caliber carbine from G&G's.

Classic Army was gracious enough to provide us with the X9, for a couple of days, to review and get a first-hand look. First thing we noticed was that there were NOT too many similarities with the X9 and the ARP9 besides obviously the name. The only SIGNIFICANT similarity we could find in the design (other than the 9mm mag, and the PDW design) was the upper receiver shape and lines. Other than THAT, I cannot really say these are 1:1 clones.

The X9 from front to back is a truly beautiful AEG. From the skeletonized PDW tanker stock, to the 4" MLOK handguard, it's lightweight composition and silhouette is the epitome of 9mm AEG PDW's. As an avid airsofter some KEY external components that stand out to me the most are the elongated buffer tube (which will house an 11.1 stick Lipo battery comfortably), the Nemesis A2 pistol grip with a beaver tail, the skeletonized rail system, the ambidextrous fire selector (bummed they didn't make the mag release ambi), and the flat trigger.. The pistol grip has small but definitely amazing features. It was designed with a quick change system which allows easy access to the motor simply by pulling a small tab on the bottom side of the grip. Another small feature about the grip is that there are tiny vents which will allow airflow to your motor to prevent severe heat up on your stock 31k Classic Army motor. The 31k motor DEFINETELY speaks volumes on the performance, which we will get into a bit later.

Internally, the great work Classic Army did with this AEG continues. Out of the box the X9 comes with a tight bore barrel, the 31k Classic Army blue motor, rotary style hop-up and CA's patented Electronic Control system. The ECS enables you to activate 3 and 5 round burst in replacement of semi and full-auto fire modes. By pulling on the trigger in semi-auto for 5 seconds, you will hear a BEEP and you are now in program mode for the ECS. By clicking the trigger you will sort through all the modes. The beeps are fairly self-explanatory, 3 beeps mean 3 round burst, 5 beeps equals 5 round burst, 1 beep means single shot, and just a full line of more than 5 beeps means... you guessed it, full auto. Now if you're a fan of being able to do all this to your Airsoft gun then this is perfect!! If you're like me it won't be used quite often, I would just leave my AEG in single and 3 round burst. The ECS also provides a short reset so you can fire follow up shots, as fast as your heart desires. The trigger response is truly crispy.

Performance wise, shooting 22-24 RPS, firing at just fewer than 350 FPS with .20 gram bb's and with its fast trigger response this was truly meant for indoor gameplay. Having said that, KEEP IT INDOORS. It's effective range is about 100-120 feet with .28 gram bb's, which won't be able to hang with other Airsoft guns outdoors. The 4 inch barrel is meant for indoors for sure. Have no fear though, if you want to get some more range on your Nemesis X9 and take your PDW outdoors, the upper receiver can be swapped with other Nemesis upper's. In fact it is compatible with 100% of Nemesis uppers, which was said to be true by a Classic Army rep.

To wrap up this review, the X9, priced at around $300 is definitely something to keep your eye on if you're an indoor player who loves flashy colors and a great performing gun out of the box. If you're an outdoor player who loves the PDW design well simply buy a Nemesis upper and throw it on here and you're ready to go. Classic Army did a good job with the external and internal components on this one so if you need some convincing to buy it, welllllll just do it.

I love the pro gunbuilder by golden eagle!
The gunbuilder was very useful and made it easy for me to buy my first mid/high spec gun for just about $300. It gave me comfort in that i can get more parts to switch out at a later time if i wish to change anything about my rifle and that there will be compatible parts for any modifications i choose to do on it. The gun came in full working order and the hopup was even adjusted to be perfect right out of the box. I could easily hit targets over 150ft away constantly. Johnmstopka, USA
